Lenox Hotel to Install First Commercial Curb-Side Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Boston
The Lenox Hotel to Install First Commercial Curb-Side Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Boston
Complimentary electric vehicle charging for guests at Boston’s original boutique hotel
Boston (October 4, 2011) The Lenox Hotel, Boston’s original boutique hotel and global leader in eco-hospitality initiatives, announced today it will install and host Boston’s first commercial charging station for electric vehicles at its curb on Exeter Street. The Lenox Hotel plans to unveil the electronic vehicle charging station in a special ceremony.
The Lenox Hotel will be the first privately owned, privately funded company in the city of Boston to install visible-to-the-public, electric vehicle curb-side charging station. Hotel guests with electric vehicles can receive complimentary valet parking along with a free charge for their electric vehicle. Restaurant guests and visitors of Boston who valet their electric vehicle at The Lenox Hotel will receive a free charge as well.
“The Lenox Hotel’s Green Team is always looking for new ways to embrace and promote sustainable energy practices, and we found a perfect partner in Voltrek to assist us in accomplishing just that,” said Scot Hopps, The Lenox Hotel’s Director of Environmental Programs. “We are committed to providing our eco-minded hotel guests with the newest and most-modern energy efficient amenities possible,” added Scott Grigelevich, Director of Sales and Brand Ambassador for The Lenox Hotel.
Voltrek identified The Lenox Hotel as an ideal location for a visible electric vehicle charging station. After presenting their ideas to members of the hotel’s senior management staff, they hired Voltrek to serve as liaisons with General Electric to see these initiatives come to fruition. Voltrek facilitated the engineering of the station, secured permits with the City of Boston, managed on-site construction, tested the machine for optimal performance and wrapped the electric vehicle charging stations with The Lenox Hotel graphics.
“Production of electric vehicles and consumer interest in them is on a rapid rise Massachusetts,” said Kathleen Rosen, CEO of Voltrek, LLC. “We applaud The Lenox Hotel for not only responding to this eco-conscious group, but also for helping to raise awareness about electric vehicle charging stations by installing one in open view for the entire city of Boston to see.”
Electric vehicles reduce or eliminate carbon emissions from the tailpipe of a car. Considering one-third of the nation’s greenhouse gases come from transportation and sixty percent of that is from personal vehicle use, electric vehicles can make a tremendous impact. The Lenox Hotel and parent Saunders Hotel Group continue to be at the forefront of promoting environmental initiatives both in the community and in the hospitality sector. The new electric vehicle charging station is further proof to its commitment of expanding eco-practices outside of its hotel walls.
About The Lenox Hotel’s Sustainability Efforts:
The Lenox Hotel began offsetting its carbon emissions as early as 2001. Hybrid vehicles, filtered water stations on each floor, LED roof signs, waterless urinals, state-of-the-art insulated windows, low-VOC paints and an entire hypo-allergenic floor are just some of the more recent innovations. In 2009, The Lenox Hotel invited other Boston hotels to join them in converting vegetable oil into biodiesel for operational use in lieu of oil from fossil fuels, a move that can reduce carbon emissions by as much as 74 percent. About Voltrek:
Voltrek was founded in 2010 with the commitment to be a driving force behind the growth and adoption of electric energy as an alternative transportation fuel in the United States. With a deep understanding and expertise in the economic, environmental and cultural impact of our nation’s energy resources, both available and dwindling, Voltrek created a proprietary turnkey solution for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. On Friday, March 18, 2011, Bruce Springsteen jammed with the Dropkick Murphys at the House of Blues. The audio on the above video is terrible, but the videographer had a terrific view of the stage.
